Great photography brings the Canary Islands to life, and we're grateful to the photographers who make it possible. The images across The Canary Guide come from Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons, used under their respective licences. This page explains where our pictures come from and how to raise any concern about an image.
Where our photos come from
We use images from two main sources:
- Unsplash — photographs shared by their creators under the Unsplash licence, which allows use for projects like ours. Many talented photographers make their work freely available there, and we've drawn on it to illustrate beaches, resorts, food and landscapes.
- Wikimedia Commons — a library of freely licensed media, where images are shared under licences such as Creative Commons (for example CC BY and CC BY-SA) or released into the public domain. We use these in line with the terms of each individual file's licence.
Individual credits
Because licences and attribution requirements vary from photo to photo, individual credits appear alongside the images as they're used across the site — naming the photographer and, where the licence requires it, the licence and source. That way each creator is acknowledged in the place their work appears, which is the fairest way to do it.
With thanks to the photographers
A sincere thank-you to every photographer and contributor whose work appears on The Canary Guide. Your images help readers picture the islands before they arrive and make the guide far more useful and enjoyable than words alone ever could. We don't take that generosity for granted.
Reporting an image concern
We do our best to use images correctly and to attribute them properly, but if you're a photographer or rights-holder and you believe an image has been used incorrectly, credited wrongly, or should be removed, please let us know. Email us via our contact page with the page address and details of the image, and we'll review it promptly and put things right — whether that means correcting the credit or taking the image down. We want every creator to be happy with how their work is used here.
