Puerto del Carmen does nightlife the friendly way. Lanzarote's biggest and best-known resort keeps its going-out concentrated along one long, lively seafront — the Avenida de las Playas, universally known as "the Strip" — where bars, clubs, restaurants and pubs line up facing the ocean. It's the busiest night out on Lanzarote by a distance, but it's a gentler, more good-natured affair than the mega-strips of Gran Canaria and Tenerife: family-friendly and relaxed early on, properly lively later. That easy balance is exactly why so many people come back.
The Strip — one long seafront of bars
The Avenida runs for a couple of kilometres behind the beaches, and the nightlife thickens towards the old harbour end. Along it you'll find the full spread: British and Irish pubs showing live sport, karaoke and sing-along bars, tribute acts and cabaret, cocktail lounges, and a handful of late-night clubs that keep going into the early hours. Most bars have free entry, so the classic Puerto del Carmen night is simply to stroll the front and hop from one to the next until you find your crowd.
The two-speed evening: early on, the Strip is genuinely family-friendly — kids licking ice creams, couples over dinner, gentle live music on the terraces. From around 11pm it shifts up a gear as the pubs get busier and the clubs open up. You can dip into either mood depending on when you head out.
Family-friendly early, lively late
This is Puerto del Carmen's signature and its selling point. Because the bars sit right on the beachfront promenade alongside restaurants and shops, the early evening feels safe, sociable and suitable for all ages. Parents can enjoy a drink and some live entertainment while children are still up; older teens have somewhere buzzy to hang out. Then, as the families drift back to their hotels, the tempo rises and the later crowd takes over the pubs and clubs. Few resorts manage both halves of the evening this comfortably.

A calmer island by design
It's worth remembering that Lanzarote deliberately keeps a lid on brash development — there are no high-rise mega-clubs here, and the whole island has a lower-key, more design-conscious feel thanks to the legacy of artist César Manrique. So while Puerto del Carmen is the island's party centre, "party" is relative: this is nightlife with a smile rather than a hangover-for-a-week reputation. If even that's too much, the resorts of Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca are quieter still, with a few pleasant bars and not much more.
Days on either side of the night
The resort's three beaches — including the long, gently shelving Playa de los Pocillos — sit right in front of the bars, so recovery is easy. Sensible as ever: Puerto del Carmen is one of the more laid-back resort nights in the Canaries, but the usual rules apply — watch your drink and belongings in busy bars, don't overdo the cheap-drink deals, use licensed taxis to get home, and keep an eye on your group. A little care keeps a relaxed night relaxed.
