If Tenerife has a party capital, this is it. Playa de las Américas — and the strip of resort that blurs into neighbouring Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje on the sunny south of Tenerife — is the island's undisputed nightlife hub, and for many young visitors it's the whole reason to come. The engine room is a single notorious address: Veronicas, a compact strip of back-to-back clubs and bars that has been sending holidaymakers home bleary-eyed for a generation. Around it sits a wider world of show bars, pubs and cocktail terraces, so there's a night here for most tastes — not just the 3am crowd.
The Veronicas strip
Officially the "Starco" and Veronicas complexes, this is the resort's clubbing heartland: a tightly packed run of venues pumping out chart, dance and cheesy pop, with free entry to most, cheap drinks and a young, boisterous, up-for-it crowd. Promoters work the pavement handing out flyers and shot deals, and the whole strip only really ignites after 1am, running until dawn. It's loud, chaotic and unpretentious — exactly what its fans want, and probably not where you'd take your parents.
How it works: nobody pays much for entry — the clubs make their money at the bar. Wander the strip, follow the music you like, and don't commit to the first place a promoter steers you into. Things don't get busy until well after midnight, so eat a proper dinner and start late.

The Patch and the show bars
For a slightly gentler night, the area known as The Patch and the various avenues around Las Américas and Los Cristianos are full of British and Irish-style show bars: tribute acts, comedians, drag cabaret, karaoke and live singers, usually with free entry and a relaxed, all-ages-early feel. This is the sweet spot for couples, families with older teens and anyone who wants entertainment and a few drinks without the full Veronicas experience. Sports bars showing football and other live events are everywhere too.
Cocktails and calmer evenings
Not everyone here is 19. Move towards Costa Adeje and the smarter seafront and you'll find stylish cocktail terraces, marina bars and restaurant-lounges made for a long, civilised evening by the sea. Nearby Los Cristianos keeps a more traditional, harbour-town feel with easygoing bars around the front. It's perfectly possible to base yourself on this coast and have quiet nights out — you just steer away from the strip.

Days to match the nights
This coast isn't only about the dark hours. The blue-flag Playa de las Vistas and Playa del Duque are on your doorstep, the world-class Siam Park water park is minutes away, and boat trips head out to spot whales and dolphins along this stretch of coast. Safety and common sense: the strip is generally good-humoured, but it's a classic hotspot for the usual holiday pitfalls — over-priced drinks deals, pickpockets in crowded venues, spiked drinks and the occasional flare-up as the night wears on. Keep your drink in sight, carry only what you need, be firm with aggressive promoters, use licensed taxis home, and stick with your group. Look out for each other and it stays a great night.
