Lanzarote's airport (Arrecife, code ACE) is compact and central, tucked on the coast just south of the capital — so wherever your resort, the transfer is short, with Puerto del Carmen barely ten minutes away and even Playa Blanca in the far south under three-quarters of an hour. This is one of the easiest Canary airports to travel from: the island is flat, the roads are good and the three main resort areas all sit within an easy drive. Where is Lanzarote airport?
ACE lies on the east coast between the capital Arrecife and the resort of Puerto del Carmen, which makes it beautifully placed for the main holiday zones. Puerto del Carmen is practically next door; Costa Teguise is a short way north past the capital; Playa Blanca is a straightforward run down the island's spine to the south. Taxi
Official metered taxis wait outside the terminal and, given the short distances, are a popular and reasonably priced choice. To Puerto del Carmen it's a quick ten-minute hop; even Playa Blanca is a comfortable single fare. For families and groups, a taxi straight to the hotel door is often the sensible pick — especially after a late flight. Use only the marked official taxis from the rank.
Private transfer
Pre-booked private and shared transfers work well on Lanzarote, meeting you by name and delivering you to your accommodation for a fixed price agreed up front. Private is the smoothest with children and luggage; shared shuttles cost less but pause at other hotels on the way. The short distances mean a taxi or private transfer here rarely costs a lot, and for anything more than a solo traveller it's usually worth the door-to-door convenience over waiting for a bus with your bags.
Public bus
Lanzarote's public buses (run by IntercityBus/Arrecife Bus, the local guaguas) do serve the airport, with handy links to Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen and onward connections from the capital's bus station. Fares are very cheap, making the bus a good option for budget travellers staying near a main stop. As ever, though, you'll arrive near rather than at your hotel, and connections to Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise may mean changing at Arrecife — fine if you're travelling light and unhurried, less so with a family and suitcases. Bus routes, fares and timetables change, and evening services thin out — check the last bus if you land late, buy tickets at the machine or from the driver, and treat any online figures as "confirm locally". Don't assume a direct bus to every resort.
Hiring a car
Lanzarote is a superb island to explore by car — flat, quiet-roaded and packed with distinctive sights, from the volcanic Timanfaya National Park to the many César Manrique attractions and the golden coves of the south. Many of these are spread out and awkward to reach by bus, so a hire car genuinely transforms a Lanzarote holiday.
